This year’s Alpe Adria Cup 2013 started in Tolmin (Slovenia). To remember Alpe Adria Cup is a monotyre championship and additives are illegal, so we all race on the same tyres. Tolmin’s track is very demanding on tyres and we knew it would be tough to make 30min with 1 set of tyres.

After testing the new RX8 2013 I discovered that it stresses the tyres less, but since the car was new to me I decided to test more the differences between 2012 and 2013 version. In the morning the track was still damp from overnight rain, so the organizers waited one more hour and also put some sugar-water to already start with a decent grip.

I started with the last set-up I tested with the new car from Cervignano track, but on this bumpy track in Tolmin it wasn’t quite OK. So, for the second heat I opted to drive the old shocks to see the difference but also made the rear end wider. It was now better and also the grip level was better. For the last qualifying heat I put again the 2013 shock and shock towers and I did my best time although I made one big mistake.

I left the car for the semifinal the same and I noticed after wining it that my car was so consistent during it. I discovered that the tyre wear was very even and the 7mm split fron beginning remained the same. Drivers driving other brand cars had lots of problems with front tyre wear. For the main final I wanted to explore more so I went back to the 2012 shock configuration to get the proof on less tyre wear with 2013 configuration...and ‶unfortunatelly※ I was right. After starting the final all seemed OK, but at half point my car became strange and my steering was worse and worse...I was already very low on front tyres. So, I opted to save them till the end, but I couldn’t and I finished the race on rims in front. The split went to 10mm, but I have gained a big margin in the final and also with some big errors I won the final.
